The Student Government Association (SGA) of Shaw University is dedicated to empowering students to fulfill their potential and become visionary leaders within our community. Our mission is to foster leadership development, uphold the values of freedom of thought and expression, and promote personal responsibility, academic excellence, and social advocacy.

As the official voice of the student body, the SGA serves as a liaison between the University Administration and the student community. We are committed to representing student interests and concerns while fostering unity and democracy on Shaw University’s campus.

In collaboration with the School of Divinity, we participate in the governance of our institution, ensuring that student voices are heard and valued. Through service to others and a commitment to higher learning, the SGA strives to create a vibrant and inclusive campus environment where all students can thrive.

Student Government Association Promise

The purpose of the Student Government Association of Shaw University is to aide students in the realization of their potential, to become transformative and visionary members of the community, to promote leadership development, champion freedom of thought and expression, encourage personal responsibility, academic excellence, and social advocacy; to render service unto others, foster unity on Shaw University’s campus through the realization of democracy and higher learning, participate in the governance of our institution as the official voice of the student body, and liaise between the University Administration and student community.
