Remembering Our Fallen Bear: Brijette Basden

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Shaw University announces the tragic passing of Brijette Basden, a beloved recent alumnus, who was involved in a fatal car accident over the weekend.

Brijette, graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Summa Cum Laude, in Spring 2023. She also completed a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education in Spring 2025. Throughout her time at Shaw University, Brijette demonstrated a deep commitment to her studies and a passion for helping young children, inspiring both her professors and peers.

In addition to her academic achievements, Brijette was a dedicated athlete, excelling in both track and cross country. Brijette was also a proud member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., where she forged lifelong bonds with her sisters and contributed to the growth and strength of the organization.

Brijette leaves behind a legacy of excellence, leadership, and kindness. The Shaw University community extends its deepest condolences to Brijette’s family, her friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.
