Campus Alerts

  • During inclement weather, Shaw University will continue to provide housing and meals to our on-campus population and to provide essential services to all students.

Students should consult with their residence hall director and monitor the university website and social media pages for updates on housing and meal services in the event the Shaw University area is affected by the hurricane.

For students, faculty and staff remaining on campus in residence halls, please note that power outages may occur due to excessive rain and high winds. If you live on campus and extreme weather conditions occur, please see your residence hall director for safety instructions. In the event of a loss of power, we anticipate electric generators will restore power.  If power is not restored students are asked to meet your residence hall director on the ground floor of your residence hall to receive instructions on possible evacuation to a storm shelter on campus.

  • If severe weather threatens Shaw University, the Vice President for Operations, in consultation with the Vice President for Student Affairs and University’s Chief of Police, will decide if the University will open, close or report a delayed opening. Shaw is committed to fulfilling its instructional obligations, so it is the University’s intent to conduct classes as long as it can maintain reasonable conditions and safety on campus, and the roads in the immediate areas are reasonably passable.
