Transfer Agreements

Shaw University partners with various community colleges to facilitate seamless transfers for students. These agreements, with institutions like City Colleges of Chicago, the North Carolina Community College System, and California Community Colleges, ensure that students who meet specific criteria can transfer credits and receive guaranteed admission. This initiative aims to increase access and success in educational programs, particularly for underrepresented students.

City Colleges of Chicago

The partnership between SHAW and City Colleges of Chicago is important to both institutions as a means of increasing access to and success in educational programs for all students and especially underrepresented students, which both institutions are committed to serving.

Students who complete the General Education Core Curriculum (“GECC”) for the state of Illinois and successfully complete an Associate in Arts (A.A.) or an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree from CCC will be guaranteed admission to SHAW and their general education courses considered as completed.

Chicago Public Schools Star Scholarship recipients with at least a 3.0 GPA and a completed associates degree will receive a scholarship of $1,000 per year for a maximum of two years.

The North Carlina Community College System and Signatory Institutions of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities

To be eligible for the transfer of all credits under the ICAA, the student must graduate from the community college with an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree, have an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and a grade of “C” or better in all ICAA courses. Students who do not complete the degree are eligible to transfer credits on a course-by-course basis.

California Community Colleges

With respect to transfer students wishing to complete their education at Shaw University, for credits taken and accepted by a California community college, a minimum of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units will be transferable to Shaw University and core courses will align to the major pathway deemed similar, provided the student received a passing grade/grade equivalent to a C or better in the applicable major course (with the exception of licensure programs or state requirements where a grade of B or better may be required).
