    Prepare for Employment

Shaw partners with the HBCU Career Development Marketplace. The HBCU CDM mission is to inform, educate, and prepare students from HBCUs about corporate America as they transition into the workforce. The conference has remained free for students to attend, and as a result, it has strengthened the leadership and professional skills of thousands of HBCU graduates. The HBCU CDM teaches students how to prepare for professional opportunities and greater productivity after graduation.

    Community Service

Helping others helps you develop career and leadership skills. You make a difference and build your resume, too. As a Shaw student, you can volunteer doing anything from assisting women and older adults to safeguarding our democracy and the climate. When you do community service, you may also receive training and mentorship.

Shaw’s relationships in Raleigh and our Community Involvement Initiative mean that there are many opportunities for meaningful service, both in local nonprofits and in city government.
