The Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications at Shaw combines all communication disciplines. To be successful in the 21st Century requires that students learn how to identify key stakeholder audiences and determine how to reach them. But the integration of media platforms and the proliferation of new media technologies have made that a more complex process requiring much more strategically focused approaches. In addition to learning how to write and develop materials for traditional print mediums, students learn how to use social media and other emerging digital technologies to ensure that all appropriate audiences are reached.

As important as classroom instruction is, students need practical, hands-on experience in as real world a setting as possible. Through our Mass Communications and Digital Technology spaces, student’s create real communications campaigns, for real partners of Shaw University in our  faculty-supervised media training.

Careers In Social Work

Students who earn a Mass Communications degree pursue careers in a wide variety of industries, including:

Degree Requirements

A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours. Total credits include at least 48 credit hours of General Education courses. Additional courses may be required to build fundamental concepts. A candidate must earn the grade of “C” or better in all major courses.
