The Computer Science (CSC) degree offers instruction and performs research in the essential areas of computer science including software, web and Internet computing, networking, hardware systems, operating systems, compilers, parallel and distributed computing, theory of computing, and computer graphics. This major is designed to prepare you for graduate study in computer science as well as technical careers in software development, computational science, networking, science, and electronic commerce.

Our Program Learning Outcomes are as follows:

  • Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  • Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  • Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  • Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.

Degree Requirements

General Education Core Requirements, in areas ranging from African American History and Public Speaking to Concepts of the Computers and Psychology. General ed courses give you a strong foundation for any career.

Department Requirements in focus areas related to programming, data structures, algorithms, networking, web development, and software engineering. Additionally, there are elective credits available to provide the opportunity to merge areas of interest beyond computer science.
